National News: In a significant diplomatic development, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump engaged in a meaningful 35-minute conversation covering key issues including India-Pakistan tensions, Operation Sindoor, terrorism, and global security. The discussion was officially confirmed by India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri.
During the exchange, Donald Trump extended an informal invitation to Prime Minister Modi to visit the United States from Canada. However, Modi politely declined, citing a packed international schedule. Despite the refusal, the tone of the interaction remained cordial and constructive, underscoring the mutual respect between the two leaders.
PM Modi provided Trump with a direct briefing on Operation Sindoor, stating that the mission remains ongoing. He revealed that the Pakistani military had approached India with a ceasefire proposal, which was facilitated solely through bilateral military channels. Modi emphasized that there was no role played by the US or any third party, and no trade negotiations were part of the conversation.
The Indian Prime Minister firmly stated that all dialogue between India and Pakistan occurs directly between their respective militaries, and India has never accepted third-party mediation. He further clarified that India no longer views terrorism as a proxy war, but rather treats it as direct warfare, responding with appropriate action.
While declining Trump’s US visit invitation, PM Modi extended an invitation for Trump to attend the upcoming Quad summit in India, which Trump accepted. In response, Trump praised India’s counter-terrorism policy, recognizing it as a vital contribution to global security.
The leaders also exchanged views on the ongoing Israel-Iran conflict and the Russia-Ukraine war. Both agreed that the resolution to such global crises lies in direct dialogue and peaceful negotiations. Modi reaffirmed India’s commitment to promoting peace, not just regionally, but on a global scale.
The Modi-Trump conversation highlights India’s evolving diplomatic posture—one marked by confidence, clarity, and autonomy. India's counter-terrorism policy has become more assertive, while its foreign policy reflects an independent and strategic vision on the world stage.
